Another People Place is a Glasgow-based soundsystem, party and community of friends. We are guided by the spiritual power of music to collectively move the mind, body and soul. Whether it be Ron Hardy and the Muzic Box in Chicago, David Mancsuo and The Loft in NY or Glasgow's DIY ethos, the originators of club culture showed us that commitment to the fundamentals is what matters. A great soundsystem, an inviting and exciting space, soulful diverse music and an open culture of expressive freedom. Inspired by our admiration of black American musical lineages and the openness of modern institutions like Plastic People and Cosmic Slop, we began exploring the creation of a new night and community in Glasgow.

The story so far...

In late 2023 we had the idea to start building a soundsystem. Over the course of last year we spent whatever time we could in the workshop, drawing up plans, making a mess with wood glue, and painting by headtorch. Drawing upon the classic Altec A7 design used at places like Cosmic Slop, we’ve built our own 4-way system unique to Glasgow that we are excited to share and continue developing in times ahead.

Despite a strong historical link between Glasgow and black music coming out of places like Detroit, we wanted to hear a more expansive representation of this sound that we are so moved by. For us, this deep and soulful musical tapestry transcends any idea of genre, and is inspired by a feeling of warmth, movement and connection. Floating Points says it as well we could when discussing the legacy of people like Theo and Ade at Plastic People:

“...the ability to consider jazz, soul, disco and techno as a lineage that’s OK to mix together. They’re all the same music, some made by humans controlling machines, some by humans controlling instruments, and you don’t have to believe a club night needs one specific sound.” - Floating Points

Bringing together this musical approach and our handbuilt soundsystem, we wanted to create a club night that kept that house party feel. These parties will be held in Civic House's downstairs venue space - a building we're very familiar with through the running of Coorie Doon since 2023. This night aims to share a lot of the core ethos around the joy of dancing and community spirit.

So, what to expect from these nights?

• A unique sound system in Glasgow. Two stacks of carefully tuned speakers featuring classic Altec designs powered by modern drivers and amplification
• Sonic exploration through the music selections and the building/upgrading of the system over time
• An, as yet, untested wooden parquet dance floor that we drove across the country in a van to pick up
• An intimate dancing space decorated to transport us across the cosmos
• Deep warm and soulful musical selections inspired by the likes of Theo, Kenny Dixon Jr and Ron Trent
• A house party feel

• Show kindness and respect towards fellow dancers
• No photos, videos, or excessive yapping on the dancefloor
• Zero tolerance for any discriminatory language or actions, the dance floor is a safe space for freedom of expression
